Oral or vaginal induction of labour with misoprostol
In Denmark, 24% of deliveries are induced. Medical induction with the prostaglandin misoprostol administrated orally or as vaginal insert is the most common induction method in women with unripe cervices and results in similar perinatal outcomes and need for Cesarean delivery. The new study of Hansen et al. focuses on experiences of 123 nulliparous women with induction with either oral or vaginal misoprostol. The authors conclude that the overall experience of giving birth after induction with oral misoprostol in an out-patient setting was associated with a better experience of labour than the induction with a slow-release misoprostol vaginal insert.
